McCain needed a game changer in Wednesday’s presidential debate. He found it in Joe Wurzelbacher, the plumber from Toledo, Ohio. I think everyone in America now has heard of the infamous exchange between Obama and “Joe the Plumber” while Obama was going door-to-door on Joe’s block. If you missed it, here is the vid of the exchange with analysis to catch you up.
“Joe the Plumber” was mentioned in the third and final presidential debate 27 times and was just the lightning strike that McCain needed to focus his campaign and his economic message around. Joe is everyman and the face of the average, blue collar worker with a trade who has a chance to start his own business. The theme is clear: Obama will tax and spend at a time when the country is flat broke and flat on it’s back, Obama wants to “spread the wealth around” (his own words to “Joe The Plumber”) which feeds right into the GOP meme of Obama “redistributing wealth” (sounds like Socialism), Obama is a radical who masquerades as mainstream (his associations with Wright, Ayers, ACORN, etc. give us pause), Obama cannot be trusted (endless video footage of Obama’s lies, back peddling, and flip flops).
McCain and Palin will continue to hammer Obama on his radicalism, taxes, wealth redistribution, and lies and inconsistencies, while the MSM finally does it journalistic duty and investigates ACORN, Ayers, and Obama’s ties to both. Will it be enough to sink Obama? We’ll have to wait and see. McCain has been chipping away at Obama’s lead in the national polls. I agree with what Boston Heralds’ Howie Carr had to say on the subject of Ayers in the debate:
As for Bill Ayers, the trust-fund terrorist, Obama trotted out his usual response. Why, the man is nothing more than a “professor of education” who committed a few “despicable” acts “40 years ago.” Too bad McCain didn’t get off the obvious comeback – the only difference between Bill Ayers and Tim McVeigh is Ayers failed. [emphasis added]
Hillary should have drawn the same parellel during the primaries. Carr is right the only difference between Bill Ayers and Timothy McVeigh is Ayers failed. Now, it’s up to McCain. People need to realize the truth and seriousness of this statement. Ayers is an unrepentant, domestic terrorist who Obama has been personally and professionally associated with since the 90’s and possibly even earlier. No excuses! Presidents don’t associate with domestic terrorists. PUMAs need to continue to tell the truth about Obama’s caucus fraud and dirty campaign during the primaries, his radical associations, especially Ayers and ACORN.
