dish and discussion of the latest news and events from the U.S. political scene
PBS’s Gwen Ifill has a pro-Obama book scheduled for release on inauguration day, January 20, 2009. She has been openly in support of Obama and has an obvious financial interest in Biden doing well in the debate and Obama winning the election. The McCain campaign did not know about Ifill’s book and bias toward Obama. (Is anyone surprised about the media bias toward Obama at this point?)
Matt Weaver at No Quarter has the story and suggests calling the Commission on Presidential Debates at (202) 872-1020 to demand that Ifill’s conflict of interest be disclosed and that she be replaced as moderator of Thursday’s debate. You can also email Janet H. Brown, Executive Director of the Debates Commission: jb@debates.org.
I just sent an email to Janet Brown. Please copy and use.
Janet H. Brown, Executive Director of the Debates Commission
I am writing you to demand that Gwen Ifill’s conflict of interest be disclosed and that she be replaced as moderator of Thursday’s VP debate between Biden and Palin. Ms. Ifill has a pro-Obama book scheduled for release on inauguration day, January 20, 2009. She is openly in support of Obama and has an obvious financial interest in Biden doing well in the debate and Obama winning the election. It has been reported that the McCain campaign did not know about Ifill’s book or her bias toward Obama. This is an outrage and most certainly favors one candidate over another. You must remedy this situation immediately. Disclose Ifill’s conflict of interest and replace her as moderator.
Thank you in advance for swift attention and action in this matter.

I’m still trying to call but the line is busy. People this is important. Call and email! The media bias has got to end!

[Update 1] At 3:50 PM EST, I was finally able to get through to the Commission by phone. No one answered and my call went into the Comission’s voicemail. I was able to leave a message. If you haven’t gotten through yet, KEEP calling.
[Update 2] It has been reported that Ifill did NOT disclose her book (The Breakthrough: Politics and Race in the Age of Obama) to the Commission on Presidential Debates. Today (10/2), Matt Weaver has a very extensive update to this story with media reaction and video of Ifill in her own words.

Already done. I questioned Ifill’s integrity and suggested that she be helped to recuse herself instead. That makes her feel like she has made the decision.

I have been calling the Debates Commission but the line remains busy – anybody have any other number for them?

Debra, the only number available online for the Commission on Presidential Debates is (202) 872-1020.
I was able to find a fax number – (202) 783-5923. They don’t list any contact info on their website, but if you do a phone lookup, you can find the following contact info:

Hello !
I follow your debates from the other side of the atlantic ocean.
All my compliments to you, PUMAS ! Great people indeed !
You may not know it. Obama would take office on January 21. It is the anniversary of the death of our last King of Old France, LOUIS XVI°. And I can tell you one thing : it is a very bad omen.

Bonjour, Jean, thanks for stopping by. The French are welcome here anytime. I spent a week in France when I traveled in Europe for a month after college. It was definitely my favorite country.
Yes, PUMAs are working hard to restore democracy in the Democratic Party. It’s central to the core principles of our country and our party. Obama is a product marketed to the masses; he is a fraud who has made gains in our political system because our media has helped him by promoting him and not covering who he really is. Scary times for citizens.

This is wrong.I went into Realestate in 1981 and I can tell you now that if there is personal gain in any transaction/business deal, you cannot be envolved because of the Conflict of intrest Law.If you do not disclose the intrest you can be in a lot of trouble…Mary in Mechanicsville,Va.

Maybe they should play “Signed, Sealed, and Delivered, I’m Yours” at the next debate. Obama could dance with all the members of the MSM and then sign autographs for them. Maybe he will create an MSM cabinet, rather than just having a press secretary. That way, we could really be like Russia and China, and Obama could just “float through” the presidency on a tide of illusion. Heck, it’s worked for him thus far.

Unrelated to this but important – I joined the PTO organization (Parent/Teachers Org) at my grandsons school – the chairs of the PTO are quoting what they find to be “inspiring snippets of nobama speeches” in their emails to the group – is this illegal as part of a school organization?

Debra, I don’t think it is illegal, but it certainly is troublesome and can create a hostile environment. I would voice your opposition to inserting politics into a non-partisan organization. They can send emails without including their political views. Talk to other members of the PTA to see how they feel about it. Maybe you can talk to the chairs as a group. If all else fails, contact the school administration to see what can be done. You may need to also contact the school board. If you aren’t getting anywhere, write to your local paper about it and get the larger community involved.
