dish and discussion of the latest news and events from the U.S. political scene
Following the announcement of high-profile Hillary supporter, Lynn Forester de Rothschild’s endorsement of John McCain, two more Clintonistas endorsed the McCain-Palin ticket last week. On a McCain campaign conference call with reporters on Friday, September 19, Miguel D. Lausell, Senior Political Advisor to Hillary Clinton, and Clinton Delegate-at-Large, Luchy Secaira endorsed McCain-Palin. The McCain campaign issued the following press release:
ARLINGTON, VA — The McCain-Palin presidential campaign today announced the endorsement of Miguel D. Lausell, Senior Political Advisor to Hillary Clinton, and Clinton Delegate-at-Large Luchy Secaira.
“Although I supported Hillary during the primaries, I now support John McCain and Governor Palin because I am putting my country first,” said Secaira, former Hillary Clinton Florida Delegate-at-Large. “They have the experience and judgment to lead America through these difficult times, and I trust them to work with Democrats to do the right thing for our country.”
Lausell, who advised Senator Clinton on a variety of issues including international trade, telecommunications and Latino affairs, added, “John McCain has a long record of reforming government and working across the aisle to achieve bipartisan results. His courageous leadership is exactly what we need in the White House, and I am convinced that John McCain is the right leader at the right time for our nation.”
Both Lausell and Secaira supported Sen. Hillary Clinton during the primaries, but they will campaign for the McCain-Palin ticket.
Lausell has served as President and CEO of the Puerto Rico Telephone Company; Executive Director of the Puerto Rico Telephone Authority; a member of the Governor of Puerto Rico’s Economic Strategic Council; President of the Export Policy Commission of Puerto Rico; and Undersecretary of the Department of the Treasury of Puerto Rico. He served on the National Finance Board of the Gore 2000 Committee and was a member of the Democratic National Committee’s Leadership 2000 Board.
Secaira, who is of Dominican descent, traveled to eight states to coordinate grassroots efforts for Senator Clinton, has a doctorate of neuropsychology and was trained at New York University.
Both Lausell and Secaira have ties within the Latino community and will have some sway on Latino voters that went solidly for Hillary Clinton during the primaries. They share concerns about Obama’s lack of experience and track record. Secaira specifically cited the pay inequities within Obama’s Senate office. She said that:
[Obama's] stance on women’s issues is all talk and no action. Secaira said that Obama’s rhetoric on the Equal Pay Act is not backed up with hiring practices in his Senate office. “We need to look no further than Sen. Obama’s own senate office, where it’s been documented that he pays women less on his staff than males on his staff,” said Secaira. “He talks the talk but doesn’t walk the walk.”
They both expressed their outraged over Obama’s latest Spanish-language ad, “Dos Caras.”
Obama’s latest Spanish-language ad, “Dos Caras,” which linked McCain to Rush Limbaugh’s offensive remarks about the Hispanic community. Secaira said this type of ad contrasts Obama’s image of being an agent of change through unification. “I don’t see anything new about put-down politics …This [ad] proves that he’s not a uniter; he’s a divider. Sen. Obama, along with the Democratic leadership, has divided the party. And this is his tactic. This is his M.O,” said Secaira. “Otro pero con ese hueso.” Translation: “to another dog with that bone.”
…“The Hispanic community has nothing to fear, because they know John McCain,” Secaira added. “He has fought against his own party on behalf of the Hispanic community and was an integral part in trying to bring forth comprehensive immigration reform.”
I wonder how many more Hillary supporters we will see defecting to McCain in the coming weeks. I’m betting at least two more top supporters make a very public conversion.

This point by Secaira sums it up:
Obama should be made accountable for his actions. The fact of the matter is that on the issue of Equal Pay, among other key issues, Obama fails to substantiate his rhetoric with respective action.

Agree 100%, Ripley. Obama is all hot air. Hopefully, voters will hold him accountable on Nov 4 and send him back to the Senate so he actually has to do something for a change.

Hillary supporters jumping the fence into McCain’s backyard, may find that the grass is greener. The Mac camp is not only more bipartisan, but also has the experience to deliver real change, attributes that Hillary also offered. I actually thought Geraldine Ferraro was going to be on this list, but she backed Obama a few weeks ago.

They just might, Lunabelle. I was surprised about Ferraro as well. I thought she would have at least not stated her support for either candidate. It will be interesting to see how many more top Clintonistas publicly endorse McCain. So far it looks like six high profile supporters have made the jump.
1. Debra Bartoshevich, WI Clinton delegate (that was replaced)
2. John Coale, lawyer, husband of Fox News’ Greta Van Susteren
3. Lynn Forester de Rothschild, Hillraiser, DNC’s Democrats Abroad chapter, and Platform committee (resigned)
4. Miguel Lausell, Senior Political Advisor to Hillary Clinton
5. Luchy Secaira, Clinton Delegate-at-Large
6. Donald Trump has also endorsed McCain. Did he support Hillary during the primaries? Some people on the blogs are calling this a switch.

grlpatriot, i did read that Trump had given money to Clinton in the primaries so it follows thathis support of McCain is a switch. I don’t know but I hope that many more follow. The last number I heard of big donors to the Clinton campaign out of 300 top donors, only seventy had opened checkbooks for Obama. It could be that the rest are just supporting McCain more quietly because of the violent threats and vile behavior of the Obama campaign and it’s supporters.

Thanks for the info Cookie. Yes, the Hillary supporters who are making public endorsements are courageous people. I, too, hope many more follow this trend.

At first, my dismay at the outcome of my Democratic Party putting Obama rather than Clinton as our Rep caused me, like many others, to not only “just say no,” but not vote at all. Now seeing all I have, I as a registered Democrat will go in there and vote Mcain. I hope he will manage things til HILLARY 2012!!!! How is it that so many don’t think the values, feelings and opinions of Obama’s long time Reverend are not ingrained in Obama and all other patrons of the church. The sentiment expressed was very scary. ” The chickens coming home to roost, Hillary being privileged and deserving ect. These sentiments and retribution for the plight of the Black population is not all our fault and to hear that rhetoric shows clearly that we are blamed to this day and generation for what our forefathers did by many, not all but many. I want to believe that our country has more pride and knowledge in this day and age to not hold this grudge forever. Our country doesn’t feel good or look good. Michael Moore had something with “Sicko” and I wish America treated their citizens more like other countries. I thought we were the model, now I see us more as the laughing stock of the world! I will go for Change with MCain til HILLARY 2012!!!!!

yes, Trump was a Hillary supporter during the primaries. He said so on CNN’s Larry King show Friday night. He said he didn’t understand why Obama didn’t choose Hillary and that he now supports McCain.

E. The “party leaders” join him in Siberia, but neither they nor the polar bears listen to the speeches any more.
F. All of the above.
G. All of the above except “A.”
The correct answer is, of course, “G.’
Gee….Who could have guessed that would happen? Pumas, of course.

No, Jack-T-R (odd choice of name), I haven’t heard that. I’ve heard there will be riots, but nothing that drastic. I certainly hope not. I’m assuming you mean that you support defeating Obama this November, then supporting a 2010 challenge to his US Senate seat in Illinois to send him packing back to Chicago. I’m all for it.
Audacity of Hype, I haven’t heard about early voting voter fraud. Where is this happening and where did you hear this? This is indeed most troubling and needs media attention.
