dish and discussion of the latest news and events from the U.S. political scene
According to CNN, high profile Hillary Clinton supporter, Lady Lynn Forester de Rothschild is dumping Obama and will be backing McCain. The announcement is set for sometime today on Capitol Hill a few blocks away from the Democratic National Committee’s headquarters.
From CNN’s political ticker:
WASHINGTON (CNN) — Lynn Forester de Rothschild, a prominent Hillary Clinton supporter and member of the Democratic National Committee’s Platform Committee, will endorse John McCain for president on Wednesday, her spokesman tells CNN.
The announcement will take place at a news conference on Capitol Hill, just blocks away from the DNC headquarters. Forester will “campaign and help him through the election,” the spokesman said of her plans to help the Republican presidential nominee.
Forester was a major donor for Clinton earning her the title as a Hillraiser for helping to raise at least $100,000 for the New York Democratic senator’s failed presidential bid.
In an interview with CNN this summer, Forester did not hide her distaste for eventual Democratic presidential nominee Barack Obama.
“This is a hard decision for me personally because frankly I don’t like him,” she said of Obama in an interview with CNN’s Joe Johns. “I feel like he is an elitist. I feel like he has not given me reason to trust him.”
For those of you unfamiliar with Lynn Forester de Rothschild, she built a multimillion-dollar telecommunications company before marrying international banker, Sir Evelyn de Rothschild. She is currently the CEO of EL Rothschild, a holding company with businesses around the world. She is also a member of the DNC’s Democrats Abroad chapter and splits her time living in New York and London. Oh, and she rocks!

[Update 1] In her statement today, Lynn Forester de Rothschild said that she “believe[s] that Barack Obama, with MoveOn.org and Nancy Pelosi and Howard Dean, has taken the Democratic Party — and they will continue to — too far to the left.” She believes McCain will lead the country from the center.
[Update 2] CNN’s Wolf Blitzer interviews Lynn Forester de Rothschild:
[Update 3] H/T to Ohioana at Alegre’s Corner for posting Lynn Forester de Rothschild’s article from the Wall Street Journal, Democrats Need to Shake The ‘Elitist’ Tag.
From the article:
While Obama supporters attempt to dismiss the charges about their candidate’s perceived hauteur, they confuse privilege and elitism. Elitism is a state of mind, a view of the world that cannot be measured simply by one’s net worth, position or number of houses. Throughout American history, there have been extremely wealthy figures who have devoted themselves to genuinely nonelitist principles. (Franklin Delano Roosevelt is probably the best-known example.) At the same time, many from modest backgrounds, like Harry Truman’s foil, Thomas Dewey, personified elitism.
It’s a good read. I recommend it to get a better understanding about Obama elitism problem.
Oh, the change! New Mexico Gov. Bill Richardson drops bid for Obama's Commerce Secretary in wake of federal grand jury investigation into government contract exchange for campaign contributions.
When will it end? Should government bailout newspapers? Connecticut lawmaker wants state to bailout two local newspapers, sparks debate about government involvement in the press.
Former DNC chair and Clinton loyalist, Terry McAuliffe, announces run for Virginia governor.
Democratic controlled Congress gives itself 3% pay raise despite recession ... Congress denies raises for federal judges ... Universities, factories and even hospitals force employees to take unpaid furloughs.
