What else can you say? He is an attractive man. I think we all secretly wondered if he had affairs. Well, now the whole world knows (from the National Inquirer no less) that John Edwards is a big ol’ cheater who may have fathered a child out side of his marriage and may have used influence and campaign funds to house his mistress in luxurious love nests.

Hoping to bury the affair in the opening Olympic ceremonies and the weekend, Edwards confessed to ABC News in an interview that ran on “Night Line” on Friday, August 8th. Good try, but this story has legs, John, and reporters are running with it. In a statement he released, Edwards continued to assert that he is “not the father of any baby.” Despite his denials, many people believe that Edwards did father a child with his lover.

The interesting angle on the story is how Edwards impacted the presidential race this year. What if he would have won the primaries? Democrats would be in a bigger tail spin than we already are with Obama. If he had not run, would Hillary be the party’s presumptive nominee right now? Clinton’s former Communications Director, Howard Wolfson, seems to think so and so does Larry Johnson of No Quarter. In his article, How John Edwards Helped Destroy Hillary, Johnson asserts:

If the story were known last December of John Edwards’ “egocentric and narcissistic” sexual “liaison,” as he calls it, with a woman he says he wasn’t in love, at a time when he says his wife was in remission from cancer (strangest rationalization for an affair ever recorded in human history), there can be little doubt that today the strongest, best qualified candidate, Hillary Clinton, would be the Democratic nominee.

Johnson assembled a record of Edwards’ negative attacks against Hillary and ends his article by saying that “For this, more than for his human failings, he deserves scorn.” I agree and will go one step further and throw some scorn on our media for ignoring this story and keeping their heads stuck up Obama’s ass.
