dish and discussion of the latest news and events from the U.S. political scene
The political blogosphere is a buzz this evening with today’s Senate vote on FISA. As promised, Hillary Clinton voted “No” on the FISA amendment, while Obama flip flopped on his pledge to oppose it. Wow! The giant Cheeto is in meltdown (here, here, and here) over Obama’s and the Democrats’ betrayal on FISA.
In case you haven’t been paying attention, here’s FISA for Dummies and what the ACLU has to stay about today’s FISA vote. Here’s a snip:
Today, in a blatant assault upon civil liberties and the right to privacy, the Senate passed an unconstitutional domestic spying bill that violates the Fourth Amendment and eliminates any meaningful role for judicial oversight of government surveillance. The FISA Amendments Act of 2008 was approved by a vote of 69 to 28 and is expected to be signed into law by President Bush shortly. This bill essentially legalizes the president’s unlawful warrantless wiretapping program revealed in December 2005 by the New York Times.
Thanks to Sen. Clinton for keeping her word on protecting our 4th Amendment rights. Check out Clinton’s full statement on the FISA Amendments Act of 2008.
UPDATED: Check out Obama in his own words on FISA.

Well, we now know where he stands on civil liberties. Looks like Obama, sweetie, forgot that he must back that speech up with his vote, otherwise it’s “just words.”
He also broke the #1 rule of survival: Don’t $hit where you eat. (Especially when you are still the “presumptive” nominee. )
